Project Summary

Some of our Visitor Attractions have many animals, including pigs, cows, sheep, chickens and rabbits for visitors to enjoy and learn about. This role will support farm staff and volunteers to look after the animals and the farmyard.

Project Description

Tasks and duties
There are a range of tasks and duties that are needed to look after the animals, many of which must be completed on a daily basis
• Feeding and providing water
• Mucking out of shelters and enclosures
• Dealing with enquiries from members of the public who are looking to buy an animal
• General farm yard duties
Volunteers with previous experience of certain types of animal husbandry may have the chance to be involved with
• Foot trimming
• Dagging
• Shearing
• Drenching
Training
No previous experience is needed as many of the tasks can be shown to the volunteer by existing staff and volunteers.
Volunteers with previous experience of animal husbandry tasks such as foot trimming, dagging, basic medical procedures are also needed.
For long term volunteers training is available and can include First Aid, practical tool use and Leadership Skills.
