Project Description

Slades Farm Garden community project aims are to increase biodiversity, and to provide a wealth of learning opportunities around sustainable gardening and wildlife conservation.

We have a number of sessions each month, typically just 2 hours long (e.g. 10:00 – 12:00) where we do activities relevant to the season, the dates for these are listed below. In the autumn and winter this will include bramble bashing, tree and sapling removal, fruit-tree maintenance, hedge cutting and pruning. In the spring and summer we will be growing some wildflowers, vegetables and herbs, and harvesting lots, and generally enjoying the space.

We provide tools, gloves, and guidance, but you will need to wear clothing suitable for the weather and the activity. The grass is long, so even on a dry day in winter footwear should ideally be waterproof (wellies!). And in summer, it may be tempting to wear flip flops, but you cannot dig, or use any sharp implements, with unprotected feet!

We advertise our sessions on our facebook group – Slades Farm Conservation Volunteers, and on our Slades Farm Community Garden page; on the Transition Bournemouth website; and on the on-site noticeboard.

If you’d like to organise a particular group session, please get in contact.
