ARC Tuesday GroupAmphibian and Reptile Conservation Tuesday Group
Practical Volunteer tasks in the Surrey/ Hampshire Weald Habitat management and surveying for rare reptile species on SSSI Lowland heathland sites. Meeting every Tuesday at the Witley Centre, Godalming.
Need to know
ARC is a wildlife conservation charity that focuses on protecting the declining populations of native UK reptiles and amphibians. The Surrey Hills/ Weald are a vital location for this work as one of the few remaining areas of lowland heathland in the country which supports rare reptile species like sand lizards and smooth snakes. We are based out of the Witley Centre and manage a range of sites across Surrey, Hampshire and Sussex.
Tasks will vary from week to week but focus on practical scrub management in Winter and surveying in Summer. We meet every Tuesday at the Witley Centre from 9am, leaving for site at around 9:30am and getting back to the Witley Centre by 3:30pm. There is no expectation to attend every week
Please bring suitable outdoor clothes including sturdy boots, long trousers, sun hat/ cream, wet weather gear and a packed lunch/ tea/ drinks. Tools and training are provided as required. Over the summer you will also have the chance to observe protected rare reptile species under license.
