The National Trust in Purbeck carries out an annual deer census across many of our sites in Purbeck. This gives us an important insight into the general trends and relative distribution of the deer population across our estate.
Need to know
This year, the census will take place on Tuesday 22nd October starting at 7:25am.
We asking for the help of a large number of volunteers to take part. Surveyors will need to travel independently and meet up with a partner to survey an area allocated to them. Routes normally take between 45 and 90 minutes depending on length.
A cooked breakfast is provided at the Knoll Beach Café in Studland afterwards as a reward for the early start, and completed survey forms are also handed here.
You do not need to have attended any of the previous surveys to take part — everyone is welcome – novices can be teamed up with experienced partners and training can be arranged.
