Project Description

There is no minimum or maximum level of experience required to join the group. There is always an expert on hand to help you learn and get to grips with species identification and the methods we follow. We are always looking for experts to join the group to help others learn so if you would like to use your experience to inspire others, get in touch!

There is no minimum or maximum time commitment required to join the group. The group meets every Thursday but you are free to join in as and when you please. You do not need to commit to attend weekly or even monthly, although for your own continued learning, we encourage you to attend as regularly as possible.

The survey locations and meeting places vary weekly and, as such, the terrain varies also. The range of habitats includes woodlands, acid grasslands, lowland meadows, calcareous grasslands, heathlands, valley mires, reedbeds and saltmarshes. These habitats are surveyed in chronological order each year according to the optimal time of year to survey. You are free to choose which habitats you would like to be involved with or join in with all of them if you would like!

As the survey locations and habitats change, the terrain does also and some habitats or locations are more strenuous than others. If you have any concerns about the physical demands of this project, please contact us for a confidential chat.

Participants should be aware that most locations are remote and not accessible via public transport.
