Project Summary

This role will work alongside the Countryside Ranger staff to carry out a wide variety of conservation and estate management tasks. The countryside service have a lot of different types of habitats including woodland, grassland, canal and river banks.

Project Description

Tasks and duties

Many of the conservation tasks are dependent on the seasons and the specific site.

Throughout a typical year the conservation tasks could include:

  • Coppicing, woodland management and dead hedge laying and scrub management
  • Installing and maintaining gates, fences, signs and benches
  • Keeping footpaths accessible by clearing overgrowing vegetation and maintaining the surface
  • Surveying and monitoring
  • Visitor management and events

Training

No previous experience is needed as any tasks and use of hand tools will be demonstrated by the Countryside Rangers or an experienced volunteer.

For long term volunteers training is available and can include First Aid, practical tool use and Leadership Skills.
