Project Description

Our Countryside Wardens lead practical conservation tasks all year round, with their volunteers.

Our small team manage 50 sites covering an area of nearly 700ha, including woodland, meadows and heathland. These areas contribute to a network of wildlife habitats across the borough. Two of our heathland sites and Shalford Water Meadows are designated Sites of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI), and we currently have five Local Nature Reserves.

We also aim to make our countryside accessible and enjoyable for all, while maintaining natural environments for future generations to explore.

Tasks include coppicing, scrub clearance, invasive species control, and infrastructure construction and repair. No previous experience needed, just enthusiasm, a raincoat, and sturdy footwear. We provide hot drinks, and biscuits! Please bring your own lunch.

Conservation tasks are open to everyone over 18.
